Below is a quick guide to the main ideas behind this episode, so you can come back to it any time.

Why hair fall starts at the scalp

Every hair grows from a follicle in your scalp. When the scalp is clogged with oil and build-up, irritated, or very dry, it becomes a less comfortable place for hair to grow. That is why the Korean approach treats the scalp like an extension of facial skin: cleanse it properly, keep it balanced, and treat it gently.

How much hair fall is normal?

Losing around 50 to 100 hairs a day is a normal part of the hair growth cycle. You may notice more on wash days or when brushing. It is worth paying attention when you see much more than usual, thinning patches, or a wider parting.

Factors commonly linked to hair fall

  • Stress: physical or emotional stress can push more hairs into the shedding phase.
  • Illness and fever: shedding often shows up a few months after being unwell.
  • Nutrition: Low iron, protein, or other nutrients can affect hair.
  • Hormonal changes: after pregnancy, or with thyroid changes.
  • Scalp condition: excess oil, build-up, dandruff, or irritation.
  • Hair habits: tight hairstyles, heat styling, and harsh chemical treatments.

Simple scalp care habits that help

  1. Wash often enough for Sri Lanka's heat, usually every 1 to 2 days.
  2. Massage, don't scratch: use your fingertips or a scalp brush for 1 to 2 minutes.
  3. Rinse thoroughly so no shampoo is left on the scalp.
  4. Don't leave hair oil on for days: wash it out within a few hours.
  5. Dry your scalp fully before tying your hair or sleeping.
  6. Be gentle: avoid very tight hairstyles and too much heat.

Products for a healthier-feeling scalp

Good to know: sudden, heavy, or patchy hair loss should always be checked by a doctor or dermatologist.
