The Gyuhap Chongseo, often referred to as the encyclopedia of the Joseon Dynasty, was written by Yi Bingheogak, a female Silhak scholar born into a prestigious family in 1809 (the 9th year of King Sunjo’s reign). This text includes a wealth of knowledge on daily life, including methods for shaping eyebrows, cleansing for smooth skin, and caring for sleek hair.

If the face or hands bleed due to dryness, mix pig feet oil and sophora flowers and apply to the affected areas to promote healing.”
